Did you know?

There are more windmills in Iowa then people?

There seems to be about 9,847 windmills from Buffalo Center IA to Woden IA (about 12 miles apart).

I’m all for clean energy but with all them whore lights flashing at night how do people sleep around there?

Windows 3.1

Do you remember Windows 3.1? I do kind of…

Back in 1992 when I was 12 I was -> <- that close to getting a new IBM PC. I was also that close to getting Windows 3.1 for that IBM PC.

I blame the friendship my grandpa made with an Apple salesmen years back when he purchased an Apple IIc for me… I was 5. My dream of a color monitor, with a mouse and a modem to connect to Prodigy were erased, deleted, corrupted, blue screened or whatever happened to Windows back then with a Macintosh.

It was not until Windows 95 came out that my dream of having a color monitor, a modem and even my own printer came true. Heck of a dream huh?

Recently after finding Windows 3.1 in my MSDN downloads I created a virtual machine and installed it. It took all of about 2 minutes to install and about 12 seconds to see I did not miss out on much back in 1992.

Here are a few screen shots of Windows 3.1 in action.

Windows 3.1 only took up around 4.5 MB of space and Solitaire looks exactly the same as it does today… Whats up with that Microsoft?

IcoFX

Wondering where the free version of IcoFX has gone?

IcoFX is my favorite icon editor. I was bummed when I downloaded the latest version 2.x to find out its no longer free and has a price tag of $50+ :( .

Lucky enough I was able to find version 1.6.4 in my backups. As far as I know this was the last version that was free.

Here is a screenshot of IcoFX 1.6.4 in action.

Download IcoFX 1.64: icofxsetup.exe.

ATI Radeon 4850 Fixed Fan Firmware

If you are having issues with your ATI Radeon 4850 over heating the firmware could be to blame.

I’ve created a new firmware that fixed my cooling issues by increasing the fan speed in relation to the GPU temperature. I also increased the fan speed at idle by 10%. By doing this I’ve decreased the idle GPU temperature an average of 20 degrees with very little noise difference.

Old idle temperature: 75-80C. Old active temperature: 95-100C.

New idle temperature: 52-57C. New active temperature: 78-83C.

I’ve attached a screenshot from RBE showing a graph of the new fan speeds in relation to the GPU temperature.

To create the firmware I used RBE v1.28 and ATI Winflash 2.0.1.14.

I’d recomemed creating your own firmware based on the stock firmware on your video card.

Download: RV770-Fixed-Fan.zip. – Please use as reference only. Installing this firmware on the wrong video card could destroy it.

ATI Radeon 4850 Stock Firmware

Here is the stock firmware / BIOS found on my ATI Radeon 4850 – RV770 video card.

The video card came with my new Dell PC in 2009. Screenshot of RBE with the details.

Vendor ID: 0×1028 (Dell)

BIOS date/time: 08/19/08 23:01. BIOS version: 113-B50107-100.

WoW around Duskhaven

Here are some screenshots in and around Duskhaven located in Gilneas.

X

This is the first time I have played the Worgen race. At first I was confused why I looked like a human, but now its becoming clear.

Worgen are large, lupine humanoids reminiscent of a werewolf that walks upright, but lopes on all fours to run.

I’ve now went from looking like a Human to looking like a Worgen. I really don’t like how they are hunched over.

Apparently since I’ve last played they have added Fog, Rain, Lighting, Snowstorms and Sandstorms. Not so sure about the other effects, but the rain sure sucks.

World of Warcraft

I’ve been playing World of Warcraft on and off since 2004 – Yes I am a dork. Like other things I seem to lose interest after a few weeks and move on to something different.

The game has evolved so much over the past eight years. From story line, to graphics everything seems so different then it did even two years ago.

I may or may not keep posting about my World of Warcraft adventure, but know that if I don’t its normal and I’ll play it again heh.

I plan to keep adding screenshots to this post as I explorer the game.
