Do you remember Windows 3.1? I do kind of…
Back in 1992 when I was 12 I was -> <- that close to getting a new IBM PC. I was also that close to getting Windows 3.1 for that IBM PC.
I blame the friendship my grandpa made with an Apple salesmen years back when he purchased an Apple IIc for me… I was 5. My dream of a color monitor, with a mouse and a modem to connect to Prodigy were erased, deleted, corrupted, blue screened or whatever happened to Windows back then with a Macintosh.
It was not until Windows 95 came out that my dream of having a color monitor, a modem and even my own printer came true. Heck of a dream huh?
Recently after finding Windows 3.1 in my MSDN downloads I created a virtual machine and installed it. It took all of about 2 minutes to install and about 12 seconds to see I did not miss out on much back in 1992.
Here are a few screen shots of Windows 3.1 in action.
Windows 3.1 only took up around 4.5 MB of space and Solitaire looks exactly the same as it does today… Whats up with that Microsoft?
